British Journal of Midwifery
Just a quick note to say I have had a review printed in the BJM – I reviewed the Doula UK DVD – ‘the Ultimate Birth Companion’ – and the review has been printed – upside – I hope the doulas like it and that it will encourage people to find out more about doula work – downsides – I wish they had put Independent Midwife by my name!!!! , and I hope the doulas like it – any way go and have a read and see for yourself!!
Cambridge Baby and Toddler Show
Had a lovely time on Sunday at the Baby show in Cambridge. Met some really fabulous doulas from around the area and also chatted to some lovely mamas-to-be. The atmosphere was great and got to network with loads of other people who provide services to mums, dads, and young families.
I still find it hard when I meet people who really don’t seem to be being told their options and choices in pregnancy and birth.
I also remembered a lady I had met earlier in the week who told me that when she went on a tour of her local hospital was told by the midwife doing the tour ‘we have a 24% caesarean rate here so you better get used to the idea’ – I was absolutely gobsmacked by the attitude of this so called health care professional – so if you ever read this blog, and I am sure you will know who you are – you have a 24% caesarean rate so perhaps you need to look at yourselves and what you are doing to these mamas and sort it out – a 24% caesarean rate is not funny and is not clever – its sad and its shocking and your attitude to it is not helping!!!
its my first blog!
start of new week and a new blog! yay!
So last week was a mixed bag – busy with work but also busy with home life.
Since our son has moved to University our daughters have been busy decorating and moving rooms. The only room left to do is the small room which will be Jamie’s when he returns so as long as it is done by the ‘Christmas’ hols we will be okay.
From a work perspective it has been an enjoyable week with a few challenges but mostly getting to meet lovely people as usual. I haven’t done any NHS work this week but am currently planning some antenatal/parentcraft classes that I will be doing for the NHS next month – I do love parent edcuation!
Enjoyed the moment of taking some birth stuff and pool over to a client who will be due soon – always exciting to do that. Also enjoy getting to know a new client at a booking appointment.
Had a meeting with a close midwife friend who is thinking of joining me in Independent Practice which will be fabulous – watch this space on this one.
Have read some really good articles online this week – links are on the Birch Midwifery Practice Midwife Facebook account – articles about Pelvic Girdle Pain, Attachment Parenting in the early days and Pregnancy that lasts longer than 42 weeks – all interesting and well worth the read.

Hello!
New website and therefore a new type of technology for me to try and get my head round – I am going to make an attempt to post something every week even if its just to say that Birch Midwifery has had a quiet week. Looking forward to blogging as I have never done this before.
Why Birch?
